Custom Rituals for New Age Practitioners

A year and one day. This is the amount of time traditionally allotted to the novice witch to study and become familiar with the craft prior to initiation into the fold. Those lucky few among us might find a coven willing to guide them through this period in their spiritual development. Most of us are what is now known as a solitary practitioner which is an idea popularized by Scott Cunningham. It can be very difficult to complete this study period because there is simultaneously too much and not enough information. There are a ton of books available on the subject of magick and pagan spirituality. However, what I found during my year and one day was that much of the information repeated itself over and over again and never allowed you to delve deeper into the craft. Additionally, the spells provided might feel hollow to you, invoking names of goddesses and gods what are unfamiliar or never quite expressing what you want to say or request from the universe. Writing rituals can be very difficult for many people, however, who have many ideas and beliefs but do not know how to incorporate them into the ritual. Some practitioners might fear not having the proper ritual format for maximum efficiency.

In general, many people simply do not have the time to write rituals and determine every aspect from tools used to words selected. I offer the best of both worlds by completely customizing rituals for individuals practicing magic. You tell me the occassion or your intention, discuss your beliefs with me, and what kinds of tools you want to use (if any.) I provide rituals for the sabbats, esbats, and general spell work. There are several delivery options: a digital copy of your ritual, a printed copy of your ritual (high quality paper, ready-made for inclusion in your book of shadows), or a full ritual set which includes not only a printed copy of your ritual but all supplies necessary. I also offter the service of forming a complete book of shadows for new practitioners. Please note, this service is meant to be a supplement to your studies and not a substitute for your own research. It is important that clients realize that the rituals will be completely thiers; I maintain no copyright on those that I write and they will belong completely to you to use and distribute how you choose. All rituals are written from scratch and are never reused for another client giving each of you a truly custom experience.

A little bit about me personally. I've been a practicing Wiccsan for over a decade during which time I have extensively studied different forms of magick and psychic development. I am a professional writer and mother of two. I love the outdoors which has allowed me to add unique facets to my practice of magick.

I can't wait to help witches around the world take their magic to the next level with customized rituals for every occassion and intention.

'The Way of Things to Come': Jung's Red Book and the Age of Aquarius
Dr Hereward Tilton (University of Exeter)
The central concepts of the psychology of Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961) - such as individuation, the archetypes and the collective unconscious - emerged during a prolonged and perilous period of self-analysis following his break with Freud. Jung charted the course of this `night journey' in extraordinary detail in his
so-called 'Red Book', an illuminated manuscript only recently published which reveals its author as a prophet of the New Age. This talk will explore Jung's visions of `the way of things to come', focusing in particular on his experience of apotheosis or deification as the Mithraic god of time, Aion. Our speaker for the evening is Hereward Tilton, a staff member at the Exeter Centre for the Study of Esotericism who has taught on early modern alchemy, Rosicrucianism and magic at universities in Holland, Germany and Australia.

What If There Is No Second Chance

I spoke with my brother Will via a long distance line this morning. He was quite emotional about his situation. But he was not emotional in the  negative sense of the word though. I sensed a great joy in him as he related his most recent experience. He was just home from the hospital where he had an open heart bypass surgery. He said he is grateful to God for giving him a second lease for his life. While listening to him, I also felt a great joy inside me. I clenched my jaw as I tried to hold back my own tears of joy upon realizing that my own brother just received Jesus in his life. Here’s the reason why I had that special feelings about what happened to him.

For more than a decade I have been telling Will about his need of Christ. He would always agree with me but says he’ll get into it later. In the beginning he was willing to listen. Later on, he became hostile and argue that God does not exist. He started to believe on worldly philosophies instead. Societies like the Brotherhood of Freemasons even appealed to him. From then, I had minimal contact with him. Privately however, I would often mention him in my prayers. I set my heart to always pray that God will deal with his heart one day. That was five years ago.

At the end of last month, I received an email from Will‘s son. The email has a Youtube video attached to it. The video contains an angiogram of his heart. The angiogram result showed that there is no blood supply to the right side of the heart. The email went on to say that Will drove to a hospital after a severe chest pain. He learned later that he was having a heart attack. I called him at the hospital. He was nervous. He said he had a near death experience. He lost consciousness once he arrived at the hospital. He said his vision turned all white and that was the last he could remember. He did not know that there was a code called for him. He did not feel the hospital performing a CPR on him. He  woke up at the ICU. I asked him what is the plan. He said only an open heart bypass can save him. Also, it has to be done soon, or else. But he said he cannot afford the cost of the surgery. In the country where he lives, health care is very bad. In fact, there is  no health system at all. He was nicely told the cost of the surgery. In other words, no money no surgery. He was sent home after five days. He was told to call back and schedule the surgery, if he has the money.

I didn’t know what to say. The amount he mentioned shocked me. but I was reminded that I have been praying for him all these years. This must be it. I felt God will do something big in my brother’s life. When I hang up the phone, I knelt and prayed for God to  provide. I included Will in my church’s prayer list. I prayed about it twice  daily. I set my cell phone to vibrate at certain times twice a day to remind me to pray for him. Meantime, Will was having mini heart attacks daily since he left the hospital. The intermittent chest pain rattled him and his family so much. Somehow, I was rattled too. I found myself praying more often asking God to save my brother. Then God answered.

Two weeks after, God provided from two sources ten thousand dollars, enough to cover the amount Will said he needs. Will was glad to know about it when I called to tell him the good news. He did not waste time to make an appointment for a surgery.  I sent the money and spoke to him again a few hours before he was to be brought to the operating room. During our conversation, He was very jovial and did not seem concerned  about anything at all. I felt weird about that. He did not seem to be reflecting on his situation toward God at all.  His nonchalant attitude made me feel God is not moving for his salvation. Anyway, I asked him that he pray with me for his successful surgery. He just went quiet as I prayed. He did not even say “Amen” with me  after my prayer. Then I  hang up the phone after saying bye. Little did I know that God would move on him right after he hang up the phone.

There was another patient in the room with Will. The other patient had a cardiac arrest and died. Will saw it all. He saw the  other patient struggle to breath as he turned bluish after his heart stopped beating. He saw death swallow someone who had the same physical problem like his. Then there was loud wailing by the patient’s family. That made will panicked and sacred. Then he decided to call out to God. He started to pray. He cried to God for another life. He heard himself praying for the other patient too. And he felt  something different this time. As if God is so close. He never felt that before. He took the opportunity to ask for forgiveness and he heard himself say, “I will follow you from now on.”.  A decade of prayers finally got an answer.

During my morning devotional the following day, I came across this parable of Jesus that tells me what happened to Will.

Then Jesus told this parable: “A man planted a fig tree in his     garden and     came again and again to see if there was any fruit on it,     but he was always     disappointed. Finally, he said to his gardener,     ‘I’ve waited three years, and there     hasn’t been a single fig! Cut it     down. It’s just taking up space in the garden.’ “The gardener     answered, ‘Sir, give it one more chance. Leave it another year,     and     I’ll give it special attention and plenty of fertilizer. If we get figs next     year,     fine. If not, then you can cut it down.’” (Luke 13:6-9)

I figured, Will is the fig, God owns the garden, Jesus is the gardener. Jesus just intervened for Will’s life. God just gave him another  chance. Somehow I thought, what if Will or people like Will did not have a chance to ask for another chance? The answer must be scary.

mood: contemplative

Last week, my mom, boyfriend and I went to see a psychic. I was house sitting for my father and I had noticed that there was a new psychic down the street, so we all decided to try it out. She said she did everything from palm reading to Tarot Reading to Chakra and Spirit readings. I had a palm reading before at the corn festival, and the reader was very accurate with my read so I thought I would try it again to see where my lines had shifted and changed.

The first thing that really made we not feel right about the psychic we saw last week is that she was pushing Christianity and church in her reading. I grew up Christian, I even went to a Catholic junior high school, and I was told growing up that everything I was doing such as Tarot, and palm reading was against the Christian church. However I have had issues with the Christian church, and I have been seeking my own spirituality now including mu curiousity with Tarot,, palm reading, mediations, and pyschic ablibilty.

The second thing is she had told each one of us that we had spirits following us. Here's the thing with as many people that have died in this world I could easily see how you can run into a restless spirit or two. However she was claiming that it was the reason for a bad luck. She told me that this spirit that was following me was the real reason why I am distracted from writing my story and why I am so unhappy most of the time. The thing is ever since puberty I would have moments of unhappiness, I just believe it is hormones, not necessarily a spirit.

The third thing that really rubs me the wrong way about this psychic is she was pushing all of us getting cleansings. I understand that cleansing are very important, but I just paid 20 dollars for a reading that maybe she could tell me something about me that I didn't know or what possiblities there in my future with my writings. I wasn't looking at her like a doctor at a check up and I have to go back every three months for a 100 dollar cleansing. She was trying to get at least 100 dollars out of each of us. I understand some people make a living using their psychic gifts, but I really felt she was just too pushy with it.

I was just wondering has anyone else has a bad experience with a psychic?

11:28pm 12/09/2009

mood: busy

This is a challenge given to me on behalf of Tarot Professionals UK, as a part of the events around our 1st anniversary as an organisation. I've been challenged to give 78 Tarot Readings in one day, one for every card in the deck. The readings will be one card readings, but Paul Hughes-Barlow, the stall holder, will be there taking bookings for more detailed readings.

I will be hunkering down in Butterfly Tarot in Camden Lock Market Hall, the Unit itself is easy enough to find -- just stay on the ground floor and look for the pale blue unit with the words "Tarot Readings" written on it. I'll be there for six and a half hours on Friday 18th!

So...

Event: 78 Tarot Reading Challenge
Venue: Butterfly Tarot, Camden Lock Market Hall
Date: Friday 18th September (Next Friday)
Time: 12.00 to 18.30
Service: One card Tarot Readings.

Be there, or I'll come to your house!

Witchcraft Workshop and Other Events at Treadwells

07:24pm 28/08/2009
13th September - Witchcraft Workshop: Waking up to Your Divinity
Self-Possession, Divine Possession with Thorn Coyle (Feri Tradition)
£60. 11 am to 5.30 pm

Feri tradition of witchcraft, pioneered by Victor and Cora Anderson, is both intriguing and hard to come by. However, once in a blue moon, Thorn Coyle, a Feri initiate and teacher of many years' standing, comes over to the UK. She will be coming over this September for only one day in the UK, and Treadwell’s took the liberty of asking her if she would be willing to do a day here. Happily, Thorn agreed, and has come back to offer that we focus on divinisation, or theosis, or (for you thelemites) the achievement of HGA. This is what she says: "We are Gods in potentia. How can we know ourselves and wake up to our divinity without losing our animal and human selves? How do we become self-possessed? Using theory, spiritual maps, breath-work, and movement, this experiential workshop explores the intersection the facets of the soul - instinct, intellect, and that which is connected to the macrocosm. As initiates, priests and magicians, we are committed to coming into effective relationship with ourselves and the world. We open the door to living as whole beings, and intone the "I am" to become fully human, fully divine, and fully alive."

Join us for this day-long experiential course grounded in Feri outlook. This day is specifically geared to practising magicians and those with experience of priesthood or spiritual dedication to transformation.

Reserve your place via Treadwell's by email (info@treadwells-london.com), or by phone, 020 7240 8906. Payment confirms booking. Treadwell's hosts courses and workshops taught by most experienced and gifted practitioners we know -- tutors who are not only advanced in their subjects but are also able to consider their practices thoughtfully and critically. Treadwells Events - Some Secret Place and more

Some Secret Place: Pagan Ritual Evenings at Treadwells
34 Tavistock Street, Covent Garden
http://www.treadwells-london.com/

These are monthly beginner's pagan ritual evenings, perfect for those starting out on the pagan path, or as solitary witches. Some Secret Place is made up of some talk, some small group discussion on devotion, ceremony, spirituality, and relationship with deity. Most of all, though, it is experiential. It's about doing and feeling rather than theorising. We hope that people who come along will deepen their personal relationship with the pagan gods. This is for people who have done some reading on witchcraft, Wicca and/or paganism, and who are familiar with at least its general theological tenets. We assume you are pagan and want to practice it, but we don't presume you are experienced.

Group size is small - maximum 17 people. The organisers want this to be a gentle, intimate and thoughtful experience. You can come once, come regularly, or come intermittently -- whatever suits you best. Please book in advance by calling or dropping into the shop as these events are often filled in advance. Entry fee is £5.

Dates: 20th August, 11th Sept, 9th October, 13th November, 11th December. Starts 7.15pm for 7.30pm

Other upcoming Treadwells events include...

15 August 2009 (Saturday)
Incense Magic Day: Suffumigations, Resins and Transcendence
with Paul Wood (Wood-Moss Herbals)
£55 including teas, light refreshments, handouts and samples
11 am to 5.30 pm

Incense is central to magical and religious practice, and this day is dedicated to exploring it experientially.

In particular, it is dedicated to the scent-producing resins that form the bases of all Western magical incenses: myrrh, frankincense, copal -- all these magical gums to conjure with. There will be meditations, sniffings, lucid dreamings, and of course, ritualised smoulderings. There will also be some incense-divination, with scrying in the smoke. You will work with the ingredients yourself, in a personalised way, so you will go home with a deeper understanding of their use in magic, their 'personalities', and how you can incorporate them into your personal practice. Each person will take home a sampler of the scents worked with during the day, as well as a notebook and handouts.

Paul Wood is a co-ownder of Wood-Moss Herbals, and is a longstanding and impassioned lover of incense, potions and plant alchemy. He has been teaching courses at Treadwell's for three years.

29-31 August 2009 (Saturday)
Tarot Advanced Course: Three Day Intensive Course
with Sue Merlyn Farebrother
£120, reduced from £140
10.30 - 5.30 all three days

This three-day course is for advanced students and tarot professionals. It is open to those who already have a grounding in Tarot imagery, although it is not necessary to have had a lot of practical experience of doing readings – just a knowledge of the cards. If you are an experienced reader, the course will widen your perceptions and consolidate your knowledge.

The course will cover
• The Tarot in the context of the Western Mystery Tradition
• Links with the Tree of Life and Astrological Symbolism
• The Tarot as a spiritual practise
• In-depth guided imagery, inner journeying and meditation
• Psychic self-development
• Creative self-expression such as story telling and imaginative exercises to enhance your readings
• Card combining and new layouts
• Lots of practise readings using the entire 78 card pack

Come and live, eat, and breathe the Tarot over three days, and deepen your personal connection with the images on the cards, improving your reading skills and enhancing your personal development. Cost: £120 for the three days, reduced from £140. Payment terms, if necessary, may be negotiated with the tutor. Registration and queries to the the tutor (not Treadwell's in this instance). The tutor is Sue Merlyn Farebrother, DFAstrolS, MA, has been running fully booked Tarot courses at Treadwells for the last year – both at foundation and intermediate levels – and has nearly 30 years of experience. The Occult in Late Victorian & Edwardian literature (Today, 16th)

The Occult in Late Victorian & Edwardian literature: Some Reflections on Belief

Elisa Gray of Lincoln College, 16th July (Thursday) 7.15 for 7.30 start. £5

Treadwells Books, 34 Tavistock Street, London WC2E 7PB

The occult featured heavily in the fiction of the late 19th century an in the early years of the 20th; moreover, a good number of practising occultists wrote stories, poems and novels. This is well known but this talk takes it deeper: Elisa Gray looks into just how English occult authors reflected upon their own beliefs, and how they expressed these beliefs in their artistic creations. She picks out a few luminaries for particular discussion, namely Yeats and Crowley - where she focusses on their poetry. Algernon Blackwood's beliefs on the supernatural are considered, as well. Most excitingly, a leading womn of the Golden Dawn, namely 'new woman' Florence Farr, is examined: the speaker looks at her writing and occultism - and how reveals her influence upon decadent advocates such as Aubrey Beardsley and Oscar Wilde. The speaker,Elisa Gray, is a doctoral student at Lincoln College, working on decadent literature.

Druids and Their Magic in Early Ireland (18th June)

Druids and Their Magic in Early Ireland:
Making Sense of the Clouds, Stars, Ogham and Bull's Blood
Lecture by Dr Mark Williams (Cambridge)
£5.00 entry. 7.15pm for 7.30pm start
Treadwells, 34 Tavistock Street, Covent Garden WC2E 7PB

Druids appear frequently in the rich saga literature of Early Ireland, engaged in a variety of eerie magical practices: clairvoyance, psychometry, cloud-divination, shape-shifting, and going into prophetic trances wrapped in the dripping hides of freshly-slaughtered bulls. And yet these actions, superficially so powerfully redolent of the pagan past, occur within literary texts which are products of a profoundly Christian, Bible-saturated medieval culture. How did early Irish monk-litterateurs envision the magic of their one-time rivals, the druids, and why on earth was imagining pagan magic of any interest for these 'saints and scholars'? Mark Williams of the University of Cambridge attempts to provide some answers.

Barry Hale's new book: Legion 49
Free, but advance guest list only, from 7 pm

Fulgur invites you to the launch of Barry Hale’s Legion 49. The book is described thus: "[in this] series of short, de-constructionist essays the artist explores traditional methods of evocation and the myths surrounding Beelzebub, before providing an iconographical and sigillic recension of his horde of forty-nine servitors, glimpsed through the protective-symmetry of the paper-cut traditions of old Mexico. Legion 49 is a fusion of styles, influences and approaches, the modern and ancient, direct and indirect, refined and raw: it seeks to capture for a moment that flitting, fleeting, Chaotic gnosis symbolised by the Lord of Flies."

Cottonwoolfairy Hats

mood: bouncy
Hello!

I am London based, and I've recently opened a shop online selling traditional pointy witch hats,
and I'm currently posting the info around in case anyone might be interested.

A while ago I became frustrated with the lack of proper pointy hats available
(beyond the fake plasticy ones you can buy at Hallowe'en).
I started making felt hats as an experiment, and enjoyed it so much
that I decided to start selling them.

The hats are felted from various different wools:
unbleached and undyed natural colours such as Black Welsh and Bluefaced Leicester,
as well as soft Merino wool dyed in any number of colours.
Often I decorate them with brightly coloured silks, buttons, hatbands etc.
However, these hats are made to be worn - The felt is hardy and weather resistant
and will easily withstand being sat upon, dropped in puddles, stolen by toddlers etc!
As such, they are ideal for wearing out and about.

There are several hats up for sale on my website at the moment - I hope you like them!
More usually though I work to commissions, so please feel free to
e-mail me with your own designs at:
cottonwoolfairy@hotmail.co.uk

Best Wishes,
Imogen Rush

Grimoires: Lecture followed by Launch Drinks 3rd June

Grimoires: Lecture followed by Launch Drinks from Oxford University Press
Professor Owen Davies (University of Hertfordshire)
3rd June (Wednesday) 7.15 for 7.30 start. £5
Treadwells, 34 Tavistock St, Covent Garden.

Professor Owen Davies is the author of the seminal study of cunning men and cunning women (published first as Cunning Folk, reprinted as Popular Magic). His new book on magical texts is eagerly awaited, and tonight is its launch night. He will be giving a lecture on one aspect of the grimoire tradition, from his latest research. A launch party follows, hosted by the publisher of the book, Oxford University Press.

Owen Davies is Professor of Social History at the University of Hertfordshire. Much of his work has concerned the continued widespread belief in witchcraft and magic in the modern period, and why witchcraft accusations eventually declined in England during the early twentieth century. This has also led to work on popular medicine and folklore, comparative studies regarding France and Scotland, and interdisciplinary research applying anthropological and biomedical knowledge to historical topics. He has spoken at Treadwell's before and we warmly welcome his return.
Tickets will go on sale in April 2009.

Reserve your place via Treadwell's by email (info@treadwells-london.com), or by phone, 020 7240 8906. Payment confirms booking.
